CHANGE AND TRANSFORMATION FROM A CULTURAL PERSPECTIVE

According to a McKinsey report 70% of change journeys fail due to lack of management not being supportive, team members have low engagement, or resources and budgets are not available. So how can we reduce that 70% and what do we need to be aware of?


Organizations and individuals who implement change often ignore the people side as they focus on the technical aspects of the solutions. Implementing a small or large change without understanding change from different cultural perspectives is like building a ship without a crew -- you might stay afloat for a while, but you may also never leave the shore. 


According to John Kotter, Professor of Leadership, Emeritus, Harvard Business School, and management author states,

“We are moving from episodic to continuous change. With this shift, urgency will move from being an important issue every few years to being a powerful asset all the time.” 

Research with thousands of organizations has shown that one size fits all approach to change is limiting or not sufficient when working with multicultural teams. When organizations support mobile employees during an intercultural assignment, they benefit long after those same individuals repatriate.
